    Motivation aside, health benefits of a vegetarian diet are numerous

    According to various Web sites like medicinenet.com, the health benefits of a vegetarian diet are the number one reason people choose to take meat out of their diet.

    But according to other Web sites such as vegsoc.org (The Vegetarian Society), a survey they conducted showed that the majority of people said they gave up meat and fish because they did not morally approve of killing animals, or because they objected to the ways in which animals are kept, treated and killed for food.

    Riverfront Development bringing fine dining, fun to Chesterton

    The new Riverfront Development in Chesterton aims to bring in new businesses and jobs to the community in order to create a fun environment for residents and tourists alike.

    It all began with the opening of Lucrezia’s 12 years ago in Chesterton’s downtown district.  Nada Karas and her husband had moved to Chesterton for new jobs, but had found that the fine dining establishments they were previously used to were not present there then.  They would travel to Valparaiso, Miller, or Michigan City, but, even then, al fresco dining was uncommon. 

    “There really wasn’t a great place where you could have a bowl of pasta and a nice glass of wine and kick back.  There was definitely not any al fresco dining.  We missed that,” Karas said. Read More | Comments

    Sometimes the number 13 proves lucky.

    This summer, Dawn Williams, 17, representing the South Haven Boys and Girls Club, was named one of 13 regional finalists in the Boys and Girls Clubs national Youth of the Year competition, making her the highest-placing Porter County club member in the 63-year-old national event.

    Five winners from five regions go on to vie for the Youth of the Year title. Williams will be a senior this year at Portage High School. Read More | Comments

    The South Haven Boys & Girls Club recently conducted its sixth annual spelling bee. The words used were words provided by the Portage Townships elementary schools. Over 30 members competed in two divisions: 1st grade-3rd grade & 4th grade-6th grade. Read More | Comments
